:: Information Modeling

BreakAway has experience simulating the intangible as well - money, information, power, influence. When simulating a world for a real-time strategy game such as Civilization or Tropico, a game developer needs to model an entire country or civilization to mimic a functioning economy, government, and environment so that it is suitably complex and believable, responds appropriately to player actions and inputs, and yet still operates within the CPU processing limits of a PC. As long as the overall effects of actions and decisions are accounted for and modeled to a statistical degree of accuracy, the results can be used to define inputs for more precise models.

Visualization and analysis of networks and information channels such as computer networks, financial networks, and communications networks are areas where we believe we can develop simulation models and editors for end users.

In our serious games experience, we have created a conceptual auditing training simulation called Virtual Bank, which teaches junior auditors to uncover bank fraud by following a virtual money trail. Designed to capture the knowledge of a retiring workforce who worked through the S&L scandals of the 1980s, Virtual Bank demonstrates one basic way simulation can help transform training for the financial services industry - and perhaps provide inspiration for other applications as well.
